YOUR DAILY PROMPT

Briefing ID: 26-141

Status: Confidential

Open almost any CRM, look at the reason field for lost deals, and you will find one word doing an enormous amount of work. That word is “price.”

Having been in sales before, I understand why. When a deal falls through, the salesperson has a few seconds to pick a reason from a dropdown before moving on to the next prospect, and price feels like a safe, blameless answer. And sometimes it is even true.

But when I have sat down with sales leaders and read the actual notes behind those lost deals, a more complicated picture usually appears. One prospect waited nine days for a proposal, and another chose a competitor who brought a case study from their own industry. In a third deal, the decision maker changed halfway through and nobody rebuilt the relationship, while in a fourth, the champion loved the product but could not explain it to the CFO.

Price may have been the last reason the prospect gave, but it was rarely the only one. Teams that treat it as the whole story tend to discount their way through next quarter while the real problems keep repeating.

AI is useful here because it reads every lost-deal note with the same patience. Give it a batch of anonymized notes, call summaries, or email threads, and it can group the losses by stage, look for repeated patterns in timing, competitors, or objections, and separate what prospects actually said from what the salesperson assumed. It can also flag deals where the recorded reason and the notes disagree, which is often where the most useful insight sits.

Your experience still decides what the patterns mean. AI might show you that a third of your losses mention a slow proposal process, but you know whether that comes from staffing, approvals, or a pricing tool nobody likes to use.

Today’s brief helps you turn a quarter of lost deals into a few changes your team can actually test.

Let's go raise your AIQ.

A NOTE ON TODAY'S PROMPT
📋 Meet the AIQ Brief

If you have been reading AIQ with Paul for a while, today's Master Prompt will look a little different. Starting this week, every prompt is written as an AIQ Brief, the same format I now teach in the AIQ Advantage program.

The older prompts opened by giving AI a role and then spelled out every step. Today's AI tools plan their own steps well, so the most useful thing you can give them is what only you know, such as your situation, your standards, and the facts that cannot change. A brief covers what any capable new partner would need to know before starting the work.

  • Context describes the situation and who the work is for.

  • Intent says what the result must accomplish.

  • Constraints list the facts, limits, and boundaries that cannot change.

  • Output describes what good looks like, including its Voice, Tone, and Style.

  • Check names what AI should show you and what you will verify yourself.

You will also notice the prompts are shorter. Much of the old length went into telling AI how to work, and the brief spends those words on your situation instead.

Fill in the brackets the same way you always have, and give the Check section extra attention, since it tells you what to confirm before you use the result.
