YOUR DAILY PROMPT
Briefing ID: 26-136
Status: Confidential
There is a particular kind of optimism that takes over when we develop a proposal for something we really want funded. Every benefit seems reasonable, the implementation timeline looks achievable, and the numbers make a convincing case for why the organization should write the check.
Then someone from Finance asks what happens if the project runs 20% over budget, takes six months longer than expected, or delivers only half the projected savings. Suddenly, the room gets a little warmer.
I've always appreciated the value of a good financial challenge, even when I didn't particularly enjoy receiving one. The people who approve capital investments have a different responsibility than the people proposing them. They have to consider competing priorities, limited resources, financial risk, and whether the expected return justifies tying up money that could be spent elsewhere.
That difference in perspective is exactly where AI can help.
One of my favorite ways to use AI is to assign it the role of someone who has every reason to challenge my thinking. In AIQ Advantage, we call this Red-Teaming, a practice where you deliberately direct AI to find flaws, inconsistencies, unsupported assumptions, and overlooked risks in your work.
For a capital request, I want AI to act like a skeptical CFO who has reviewed hundreds of investment proposals and has developed a healthy allergy to optimistic spreadsheets.
Give AI the proposed investment, the business problem, the projected costs, the expected benefits, and your reasoning. Then instruct it to evaluate the request from Finance's perspective, looking for weak assumptions, missing evidence, unrecognized costs, competing alternatives, and difficult questions you should be prepared to answer.
You might discover that your estimated payback period depends on savings that haven't been validated, or that your implementation budget excludes training and ongoing maintenance. Perhaps the proposal makes perfect operational sense but fails to explain why the organization should approve it this quarter instead of next year.
These are useful discoveries to make while you're sitting comfortably at your desk.
Today's Master Prompt gives you a virtual CFO who will challenge your business case, evaluate the strength of your assumptions, and identify what you should address before presenting your request.
You still own the recommendation and must validate the financial analysis. AI simply gives you another perspective while there's still time to improve your proposal.
Let's go raise your AIQ.
