YOUR DAILY PROMPT
Briefing ID: 26-150
Status: Confidential
For a few years in a row, my HR team started January with a cross-training plan. We picked pairs, made a list of tasks, and agreed to spend an hour a week learning each other's work. By March the plan had usually faded away because the busy season arrived and an hour of training always lost to an hour of “getting-things-done” work.
Of course, if I had just let it keep happening, that was a leadership misstep. So, I worked with the team to stop trying to cross-train on everything and picked the handful of tasks that would actually hurt us if the one person who knew them was out. We then matched each task with a backup who had the time and the aptitude for it, and we built the practice into the calendar when the work was happening anyway, such as having the backup run a payroll cycle while the expert watched.
From what I have seen ,most cross-training plans fail for the same reasons. They try to cover too much, they pair people by convenience instead of fit, and they treat training as something extra instead of part of the work. A plan can look fine on paper, but in the rush of deadlines and unscheduled projects, it is the first thing to disappear.
I didn’t have AI back then, but you do today. Give it your list of critical tasks, the people who know them, and the people who could learn them along with their current workloads, and it can propose sensible pairings, schedule the training around when the work naturally occurs, and draft a simple checklist for each task. It can also show you where one person is being asked to learn or teach too much at once.
You still get to choose who learns new tasks and shadows other workers because you know who is ready to grow, who is already stretched, and who would see a new responsibility as recognition rather than a burden.
With the holidays coming, a lot of time off is about to land on the calendar. Today's brief helps you build backup coverage for the work that matters most before it does.
Let's go raise your AIQ.

HOW TO USE THIS BRIEF
🧭 Reading an AIQ Brief
Every Master Prompt in AIQ with Paul is written as an AIQ Brief. Each section answers a question AI needs answered before it can do good work for you.

Context tells AI what the situation is and who the work is for. Intent says what the result must accomplish, and Constraints list what cannot change or is off limits. Output describes what good looks like, and Check names what AI should show you and what you will verify before you use the result.
Fill in the brackets, run the brief, and treat the Check section as your to-do list once AI responds.
Take your skills beyond the brief. In my AIQ Advantage™ program, I teach working professionals how to build briefs into reusable workflows, check AI output before it goes out under their name, and decide where AI fits in their work. Learn more at AIQAdvantage.com
